Liberian Youth Orchestra Project

The Liberian Youth Orchestra Project has brought string music to Liberian children. There are no string music programs in Liberia. We want to change this reality. Julie McGhee is partnering with Change Agent Network (CAN) to bring hope and a future to underserved children through music education. The Change Agent Network (CAN) team is extremely excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our students. The LYO project started in one school, Heart of Grace School located in City View, Jacob’s Town Rehab Community of Lower Johnsonville, Montserrado County, Liberia. There are currently 600 students K-12 in this school. The LYO project began with 30 students grades 4-9 the first year. Julie McGhee was teaching on the ground in Liberia as well as live-stream lessons/classes from her home back in Detroit Michigan in the United States. The first graduation of this unique program is expected to be held in June of 2019.
